Before the interview

  • Research appropriate clothing to wear – it is better to be overdressed than underdressed
  • Ensure your clothing has no creases
  • Make sure you have appropriate shoes to wear that are clean and meet the necessary health and safety standards for the role. For example, boots for a construction/labouring job
  • Research the business and position
  • Practice answers to standard questions. For example:
    • What are your strengths and weaknesses
    • Why do you want to work here
  • Be very familiar with your resume and cover letter

During the interview

  • Listen carefully to the questions and ask for clarification if necessary
  • Repeat the question back to them in your answer to show that you are addressing the question and to keep you on track
