Imagine getting work experience and a training manual for raising children before you actually become a parent.
Well, that’s exactly what happened for Port Macquarie’s Summer Shoults who completed the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) through Enterprise & Training Company (ETC) while she was pregnant.
“Studying this course and having the work experience really helped prepare me during my pregnancy”, Ms Shoults said.
“I worked in a nursery with 6-12 month olds and spent some time with the older groups”.
Ms Shoults completed her work experience with Goodstart Early Learning Port Macquarie.
“They liked me so much that they gave me a job right away”, Ms Shoults comments.
“I was so grateful for this opportunity”.
Ms Shoults hopes to continue her career with Goodstart when she returns to the workforce.
Five out of the six students from Ms Shoults class were also successful in obtaining employment once completing the course.
Classmate Emily Fursey was placed into a full time traineeship with River Street Early Learning Centre after completing the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) with ETC.
“ETC helped me to achieve my career goals by giving me this opportunity”, Miss Fursey said.
“My trainer Anneke has been really helpful.”
The students were trained in child development and care, health and safety, family and culture, play and creative experience, and professional skill development.
