How do ETC Community Support Fund and PCYC help youth?

By connecting local youth through music!

Gold Coast youth now have access to brand new DJ equipment thanks to a $9,378 grant from the ETC Community Support Fund provided to the local PCYC.

According to PCYC Gold Coast Branch Manager Sgt Linda Baade music was a great tool to engage youth as it was something they could all connect and have fun with.

“Our aim is to get the young people to our events, get them off the streets at night and put them on the right path. They love putting their own songs on and having dance offs, or learning how to DJ,” Sgt Baade said.

The PCYC’s previous system was outdated and incompatible with newer technology which resulted in delays and faults during events.

“It was very unreliable and not user friendly, it would crackle and provide poor sound quality. Plus the system was heavy and bulky which was a deterrent for the kids to get it to places,” she said.

“This new system is fantastic – the kids are really excited to use it, and it’s completely different so they are learning new skills.”

Sgt Baade thanked ETC for the support.

“Funding is getting harder to achieve these days. Without the ETC grant we wouldn’t have been able to purchase this system or roll out as many activities as we have booked in now,” she said.

“The new equipment has enabled us to continue supporting local youth and the community through regular engagement at Blue Light discos and other community based events including Youth Week, Time4Kids Day, French Festival, and Homeless Youth Campaign.”

ETC Gold Coast Business Relationship Manager Rachel Dow said it was a pleasure to be able to support the Gold Coast PCYC.

“The ETC Community Support Fund is designed to help organisations reduce disadvantage, generate opportunity, increase support services and/or build capacity in the communities in which we operate,” Ms Dow said.

“ETC is proud to be a not-for-profit company and we are confident the money we are donating will help make a more positive future for our community.”
