ETC Announces Crown Hotel Motel as Employer of the Month

The Crown Hotel Motel based in Grafton has been announced as the Enterprise & Training Company Limited (ETC) Employer of the Month.

Owner and licensee Gordon Masters said the family owned and operated business proudly employed nineteen local staff.

“We have a great team here – all loyal and honest workers,” Gordon said.

“We try to be fair and put our staff first by not having them work every weekend or public holidays so that they can spend time with their family. I feel that if you have happy staff you have a better business.”

Local mum Belinda Bates joined the Crown team five months ago after struggling to find suitable employment in the area.

“It was very stressful for me financially just relying on the dole while I was looking for work and I felt a bit lost,” Belinda said.

“So I approached ETC to help. Within a week I had an interview with Crown and haven’t looked back since.”

Belinda loves that she can now enjoy the simple things like having a cup of coffee with friends.

“My daughter and I can actually go places on the weekends now and I’m not always struggling like before,” Belinda said.

“I’m glad that I have found something I really like – it doesn’t feel like coming to work. The team I work with are great and a lot of fun.”

According to Mr Masters, the business gave back to the community where it could by supporting local organisations and events.

“We try to help out the local Scouts and sponsor events such as Grafton Cup Day and local Boat Races,” Mr Masters said.

“We also provide work experience for local jobseekers to help develop their skills and then, when we are really busy we can employ them.”

So what’s Belinda’s advice to other people looking for work?

“Firstly, I think it’s important in the long run to find something that you really enjoy doing and that makes you happy,” she said.

“A lot of the time it’s not what you know, but who you know. It’s important to get your name out there and seek help if you are struggling.”
