Proving to be a business that goes over and above for its staff, Kingscliff Accommodation has been awarded as the ETC Employer of the Month.
Encompassing Paradiso Resort, Sunrise Cove and Marine Boutique Apartments, Kingscliff Accommodation is a fresh business which was established by Janene Lund and Dale Ambler just two years ago – and has now grown to employ twenty local staff.
“Dale and I fell in love with Kingscliff and the properties we were looking at in the area. We’re hoping to grow even more in the next year or so as Caretakers and Property Managers,” Ms Lund said.
The team at Kingscliff Accommodation were thrilled when they won the ETC award, including Business Manager Rayna Channells.
“It was a great honour to be recognised for the hard work that we are doing. We really do try to go beyond the norm for our employees,” Ms Channells said.
“While we do focus on work, we also want our staff to be happy in every area of their personal lives too. I find that if they’re happy and healthy at home then that transitions into work as well.”
Boxing lessons and access to the three Resorts’ facilities on days off are just some of the many rewards provided to staff to show that they’re appreciated.
“We’ve also provided some temporary accommodation onsite for one of our employees who was unfortunately homeless and sleeping in a park. We helped him get back onto his feet and find a long term housing solution,” Ms Channells said.
“We also had another employee who doesn’t have any family in the area and was on the brink of homelessness, so myself, Janine and Dale got together and found her a place and helped her to move her belongings into a new apartment.”
“In addition to this Janene and Dale have paid for driving lessons for employees and also donated their personal time to be supervising drivers for them to log hours – so it can increase their mobility and open up further opportunities.”
Kingscliff Accommodation Caretaker Ben Hutchinson can vouch for his employer after they recently helped him with some furniture after moving into his own apartment.
“Working for Dale and Janene is pretty incredible – they really care about us and it’s like family here. The working environment is great too and I feel privileged to work here,” said Ben.
Janene shares her lessons and advice for others who are considering starting their own business.
“You can’t go into business thinking you know everything. It’s important to learn from as many sources as possible so you can grow, change and adapt. Prepare to have a lot of hard work initially. Plan your cash flow, make sure you have great staff you can rely on – and above all have patience,” she said.
The team at Kingscliff Accommodation thanked ETC for help with all of their employment needs.
“ETC is great – particularly Evan and Kesh. They helped me to find this job which I love,” said Ben.
“I’d happily recommend ETC to anyone. We’ve got so many great staff so far from them,” said Janene.
“We have a great partnership with ETC. If our staff don’t have uniforms or shoes then ETC will help provide these for them,” said Rayna.
