ETC staff awarding the Sails team

Port Macquarie’s destination resort Sails by Rydges has been awarded as the ETC Employer of the Month.

A recent multi-million-dollar refurbishment has seen the company increase its staffing level by almost 50%.

General Manager Nick McLaughlin said the addition of new rooms, a brand new restaurant and bar, and a brand new event space seating 300 guests had opened up a variety of career opportunities.

“Food/Beverage and Housekeeping are the main areas where we’ve had the growth – it’s been a great opportunity for local job seekers,” Mr McLaughlin said.

According to Mr McLaughlin the Resort provided many benefits for its workers.

“Well for one – it’s a stunning location. But what we also like to do with our staff is identify those star performers who put their heart and soul into the business and reward them. Doing this seems to bring everyone’s performance up as well,” he said.

Mr McLaughlin shares his tips for other employers:

  • Investing in your staff is important and creating a positive culture.
  • Set your vision and goals. Make sure that everyone is beating the same drum and driving towards the same goal. Without goals everyone can be going in all different directions.
  • Be sure to provide tools and training for your staff so they can do their job well.

“We were extremely excited to win the ETC award and be recognised as a committed employer,” said Mr McLaughlin.

“It has been great to partner with ETC – they have been very communicative and respectful to our needs.”
