We met with Justin Zulamoski, General Manager of Busy Bees Academy, Shining Stars Academy the Lakes Early Learning Centre, 1 2 3 Grow Childcare and Gaven Early Learning Centre.

What does your role involve?

I have been managing for the past 3 years now. It’s my responsibility to ensure we are employing qualified and passionate employees, and to work closely with our company Directors to ensure all of our Centres are providing high quality care.

Lessons learned since being in Management

Initially when I started, I went into each individual Centre as an outsider to see all the complications that can arise on a day-to-day basis and started to think of ways these could be rectified. This was a big learning curve. Eventually I built up my confidence, knowledge and experience to be a General Manager.

How do you gain inspiration and knowledge to grow your business?

We constantly network with other Centres in the area as we don’t see them as competition, but something we can learn from. This is also a great way to build a good reputation within the community.

We attend regular workshops and professional development to keep up with the ever changing industry as Childcare is a fast paced sector and there is a lot of legislation changes.

We also take parent communication very seriously. We take on board all feedback received from parents and implement many of the suggestions throughout our centres.

How do you manage Work/Life Balance?

With the industry that we are in and the amount of centres that we have – there is long hours to be worked. However, I believe that you should always find the time to do things that are important to you like your hobbies, interests, friends and family.

Fantastic, thanks for your time Justin!
