Enterprise & Training Company (ETC) is excited to be working with Lismore Woolworths to provide workplace based training for eight local job seekers as part of ETC’s Retail pre-employment program.
The three week intensive training course has provided the students with valuable insight into what it’s like working in the Retail industry.
According to student Tyson Manderson this program has opened up many opportunities for him.
“This retail certification has given me a broad range of skills,” Tyson said.
“I’m hoping that Woolworths can employ me in the new year. That will be my first proper job.”
The practical training at Woolworths covered skills such as how to apply safe work practises, apply point-of-sale handling procedures, working effectively in a customer environment and merchandising products.
Woolworths Store Manager Ben Gordon said the training program made a positive impact on his busy store in Lismore.
“My team appreciated the help especially given this time of year. It has had a very productive result for our store,” Mr Gordon said.
“It was good to give the students the full experience to assist with their learning. They all fitted in well with our existing team and applied themselves to the tasks.”
ETC Trainer and Assessor Kim Streater said the program provided students with the opportunity to “learn by doing” whilst developing strong relations with customers and other staff.
“The program exposes them to a live environment and gets them work ready. They have learned a lot about the operations side of how things work,” Kim said.
“They were an excellent group of students with 100% attendance. They are now eager and skilled to work in the industry.”
