Workforce Australia – Self-Employment Assistance, delivered by ETC, is a new service that replaces the New Business Assistance with NEIS program. Self-Employment Assistance provides a range of services for current and aspiring business owners, ranging from flexible individual Business Advice Sessions to a structured 12-month package of Small Business Coaching.
For your customer to participate in Self-Employment Assistance to start their own business, they must:
Be at least 15 years of age
Not be prohibited by law from working in Australia
Not be an overseas visitor on a working holiday visa or an overseas student studying in Australia
Not be an undischarged bankrupt
Not have participated in the Self-Employment Assistance or the Small Business Assistance with NEIS program in the previous year
ETC will assess their business idea to ensure it meets the eligibility requirements. If you have a customer who is an existing small business owner who is needing support, their business must:
Have less than 4 employees
Be a small-business at risk of not operating on a commercial basis
Have an independent business structure
Be lawful and capable of withstanding public scrutiny
Be established, located, and operated solely within Australia
ETC’s Self-Employment Assistance Model
ETC’s Self-Employment Assistance offers a range of interactive programs, resources and support to eligible people with small business ideas. The Assistance will include both one-on-one mentoring and group workshops.
Formal learning modules include:
Exploring Self-Employment Workshops – Help participants understand what’s involved in starting a business, generate or validate a business idea and, make an informed decision as to whether self-employment is right for them.
Business Plan Development – A business plan helps participants focus on the steps needed to make their businesses succeed, through: one-on-one advice, small business training, assessments of business plans.
Small Business Training – Allows the participant to acquire an accredited qualification, that the Self-Employment Assistance provider will assist them in picking what is right for them.
Business Advice Sessions – 2 free one-hour sessions every 12 months that focus on; advice on establishing their business and, improving the business’ financial position.
Business Health Checks – A 3-hour, one-on-one session with a Self-Employment Assistance provider. They can help you assess how your business is currently running and find ways to improve it.
Small Business Coaching – Provide eligible participants with; access to personalised business mentoring and support for up to 12 months, support for up to $300 worth of small business start-up costs and, an allowance for up to 39 weeks and rental assistance for up to 26 weeks (eligibility rules apply).
