Exploring Self-Employment: learning how to start your own small business

After pondering their business ideas, ten budding small business people started the Exploring Self-Employment workshop with Business Advisors Kimberlie Clare-Campbell and Angelo Saavedra from ETC Hunter and New England.

During this fee-free 2-week online workshop, participants discovered what it takes to turn their business ideas and hobbies into fully-fledged businesses.

Supported by their Trainers and classmates, each person was encouraged to share their thoughts, perspectives, and life experiences.

Business ideas ranged from food products, homewares, gardening, and live performance solutions, to pest control.

Program participants on their way to self-employment

Whether participants had an existing small business that they wanted to improve or an idea about a new product or service they wanted to build on, ETC’s Small Business Coaching was able to help.

For example, this workshop assisted participants Anne and Kristy on their journey to becoming small business owners.

Anne started the program after receiving offers from large companies to stock her product.

She needed help and practical advice on how to start a business and wholesale her products.

“I found the Exploring Self-Employment workshop helped me understand the basic requirements of running a business and aided me in developing my business foundations,” Anne explained.

After completing the workshop, she has now enrolled into ETC’s Micro business training to create a solid business plan and avoid any potential pitfalls in running her business commercially.

Another Participant, Kristy, said she appreciated the depth of knowledge and experience of ETC Trainers Kimberlie and Angelo.

“They shared their experiences with us, and that made it easier to understand what it’s like to run a small business. I’m thrilled I got to participate.”

Kristy has also since enrolled in ETC’s Micro business training course to pursue her business idea further.
