What is the Yes Chef Commercial Cookery Apprenticeship Program?

The Yes Chef apprenticeship program helps to match apprentices and employers!

This program is for;

Want to be a Chef?

ETC is offering an exciting pathway to becoming a qualified Chef. If you want to gain a nationally recognised qualification in one of the highest skill shortage industries in Australia, join our ‘Yes Chef’ Program and start your chef apprenticeship!

You will learn on the job under the guidance of your workplace supervisor. Your ETC trainer will come to your workplace to assess your skills development which saves you having to leave your job for training. Every quarter you will be invited to participate in group practical workshops delivered by ETC and other experts.

At the end of your Cookery Apprenticeship, you will have obtained a nationally recognised qualification (SIT30821 – Certificate III in Commercial Cookery), which opens up job opportunities in restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

Are you looking to start an Apprentice Chef?

YES Chef offers a flexible, employer-led approach to apprenticeship training, allowing you to design a training model that suits your business, your kitchen and your apprentice. With ETC’s YES Chef program, apprentices are trained and assessed in your workplace, with our trainers coming to them — reducing time away from the kitchen and keeping training practical and relevant.

Why employers choose YES Chef

  • Training and assessment are delivered in the workplace, with ETC trainers coming to the apprentice
  • Rolling intakes allow apprentices to start at any time
  • Training priorities are set by the employer, based on business needs
  • Optional workshops and masterclasses are available, depending on the agreed training model

Incentives and support

Eligible employers may be able to access Australian and state-based employer incentives. Incentives are subject to eligibility and may change over time. ETC can help employers understand what support may be available. (Funded by the Australian Government)

Design your own apprenticeship model

YES Chef puts employers in control:

  • You decide which areas of training your apprentice needs most
  • Training can be aligned to your menu, service style and kitchen operations
  • Learning is practical, hands-on and meaningful

Employer Testimonial

“It doesn’t feel like a traditional apprenticeship. Our apprentice doesn’t have to leave the kitchen to attend TAFE — ETC trainers come to the workplace, so training fits around the job. Compared to other apprenticeships we’ve had, this model is far more flexible and gives us the space to support real skill development and progression in the kitchen.” – Mitch Grady, Popla.
