Everything you need to know about VET

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 6998), ETC is helping to create more awareness about the VET sector. Check out our helpful guide below.

What is Vocational Education and Training (VET)?

Essentially, VET courses are designed to teach students practical, work-orientated skills that will prepare them for the workforce.

Courses are industry-developed and focus on learning real-world, hands-on technical skills in a variety of industries such as Aged Care, Community Services, Business, and Hospitality.

Is VET right for me?

Are you looking to upskill, change careers, or move straight into the workforce for the first time? Well, a Vocational Training course might be just what you’re looking for!

There are a variety of study options available, and VET may even provide a quicker pathway into the workforce compared to other training options.

Another benefit to choosing VET is on-the-job training. All students are required to undertake a work experience component to successfully complete their qualifications. This is designed to help students become more confident and prepared when entering the workforce.

What is a VET course?

VET courses are nationally recognised and accredited qualifications. They are also a fast and cost-effective way into employment.

Qualifications range across four levels of Certificates (I, II, III and IV), through to Advanced Diploma levels.

Studying a Vocational Training course may also offer an alternate pathway to higher education options like university.

Who can study VET?

Anyone who is not currently enrolled in school can study a VET course with ETC, providing it is a qualification on our Training Scope. See the courses we offer.

I’m thinking of studying a VET course, what’s the first step?

  • What skills and experience do you already have?
  • What industries need staff right now? Where is the skill shortage?
  • Are you a people person, or would you prefer to work autonomously?
  • Some industries require a Police and Work with Children’s check – Would you pass?
