Adult Learners Week is a time to honour the courage, growth, and determination of those who return to learning as an adult.
That’s why we’re thrilled to to share an inspiring story from Ricardo. His journey is a shining example of how education can transform lives.
After being referred by his Jobs Advisor at Wise Employment Goodna, Ricardo joined the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program, delivered by ETC, in December 2024.
Quiet and hesitant at first, Ricardo wasn’t sure what to expect. But what he found was a supportive space where he could grow, learn, and rediscover his confidence.
Ricardo faced several challenges when he first entered the program. He struggled with writing, understanding context, and staying focused during tasks. But with consistent support and tailored learning strategies, he began to make remarkable progress.
Through his SEE Program journey, Ricardo has strengthened his communication, numeracy, spelling, and digital literacy skills. As well as his ability to focus and pay attention to detail.
He now understands tasks more clearly, writes with greater structure, and participates actively in class. A big shift from when he first started.
Ricardo has grown significantly since joining the program. He’s no longer the quiet observer in the classroom. Instead, he’s engaged, enthusiastic, and proud of his progress.
He expressed that the SEE program has helped him feel more like himself than ever before, saying the learning environment allows him to be more himself than anything else.
Ricardo shared that now he’s on the path of adult learning, his learning goals include improving his communication and numeracy skills to help build even more confidence.
Well done, Ricardo!
Ricardo’s journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to learn. With the right support, adult education can unlock new opportunities and help people build the skills they need to succeed.
We’re proud to celebrate the courage and growth of individuals like Ricardo — people who return to learning later in life to build essential skills and unlock new doors.
His story shows that with encouragement and the right environment, anything is possible!

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, delivered by ETC and funded by the Australian Government, is an initiative designed to help eligible job seekers improve their language, literacy, numeracy (LLN), and digital skills — essential foundations for gaining meaningful employment or pursuing further education.
Participants in the SEE program receive personalised support from qualified trainers in a friendly, small-group environment. The program is tailored to meet individual learning needs, whether someone is brushing up on basic maths, improving their reading skills, or learning how to write professional emails and resumes.
The learning experiences are grounded in key principles of adult learning, like self-direction, drawing on personal life experiences, setting clear goals, focusing on practical and relevant content, being ready to learn when the need arises, staying motivated from within, and fostering mutual respect between learners and educators.
SEE is especially valuable for adults who may have left school early, experienced long gaps in education, or want to build confidence in their communication and problem-solving skills. With flexible delivery options such as online and face-to-face learning, and a strong focus on practical, real-world applications, the SEE program empowers learners to take control of their future with confidence.
