Uphold Culture: ETC partners with Greg Inglis’ Goanna Academy

ETC is thrilled to announce an exciting new collaboration with the Goanna Academy, led by legendary Rugby League player Greg Inglis, a proud Dunghutti man.

This partnership aims to empower ETC’s First Nations customers from across the Mid North Coast by promoting mental wellbeing and cultural identity through the innovative program.

The Uphold Culture program also aligns with ETC’s broader goals and Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). By fostering cultural awareness and mental wellbeing, it demonstrates our commitment to creating inclusive and supportive environments for everyone.

A powerful partnership for cultural integration and mental health

The Uphold Culture program, which launched recently at the Dunghutti Elders Council in South Kempsey, is designed to celebrate culture, strengthen identity, and promote mental wellbeing through a unique series of workshops.

Greg Inglis, alongside facilitators from the Goanna Academy, will lead the 30 participants through five impactful modules. Focusing on cultural integration, mental health strategies, and supportive yarning circles.

Julie Powick, ETC’s Workforce Australia General Manager, shared her enthusiasm for the project.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with the Goanna Academy and Greg on this initiative. This program not only supports mental wellbeing but also empowers individuals by celebrating and integrating their cultural heritage into their professional lives.”

Empowering First Nations customers through culture and community

By creating supportive environments where cultural identity is honored, ETC and the Goanna Academy are paving the way for a more inclusive and understanding community.

Inglis, Founder of Goanna Academy, expressed his excitement about the program.

“I’m excited to head back to my birthplace of Kempsey and engage with everyone who has registered to complete the program. Sharing my story and helping others embrace their cultural identity and mental health journey is truly rewarding. And even more meaningful that I am able to give back to my mob in Dunghutti,” he shared.

Inglis’ involvement brings a personal touch and a sense of authenticity to the program. Inspiring participants to connect deeply with their cultural roots.

Program highlights:

  • Cultural Integration: Learn to honor and integrate cultural practices in the workplace, blending heritage with professional responsibilities.
  • Balancing Identities: Discover strategies to balance cultural identity with mainstream culture, staying true to your roots while thriving in society.
  • Mental Health Strategies: Gain valuable tools to manage mental health, build resilience, and achieve meaningful goals. This aspect of the program focuses on providing practical techniques to enhance mental wellbeing and personal growth.
  • Supportive Yarning Circles: Participate in safe, supportive yarning circles to share your stories and experiences. These circles offer a platform for open dialogue, mutual support, and the sharing of wisdom and experiences.

This collaboration marks a significant step for ETC in building a community where cultural heritage and mental wellbeing are celebrated and supported.
