Driving success: Learn how ETC’s $35,000 in funding support helps more First Nations youth obtain their driver’s license

At ETC, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting initiatives that make a real difference. That’s why we’re thrilled to support Murri’s On The Move, a Sunshine Coast-based not-for-profit dedicated to helping First Nations youth obtain their driver’s licenses and overcome barriers to employment.

Murri’s On The Move’s mission

Murri’s On The Move started with a simple yet powerful mission: to listen to the community and address the challenges faced by young First Nations people in obtaining their learner’s permits. This lack of access was limiting their opportunities.

Kerry Turner, the Principal Drive Instructor at Murri’s On The Move, recalls the humble beginnings of the program, with only a few local driving instructors simply listening to their community, and seeing the barriers that young First Nations people were having in obtaining their learners permit, and how that was limiting their access to education, healthcare and employment.

“Our little program was so successful over the years, that we had every other organisation tapping on our door asking us to facilitate their needs and remove the barriers of the young people they work with,” shares Kerry.

ETC’s commitment to community

With over 35 years of experience, ETC is no stranger to helping people overcome personal challenges. As a registered charity and leading provider of employment, training, and business services, our commitment to community extends far beyond our business operations.

Since 2012, through the ETC Community Support Fund, we have donated over $2.5 million in funding to deserving community organisations across our footprint.

This aligns directly with our vision of making a positive impact on peoples lives.

Last year alone, we allocated $500,000 to 16 deserving organisations across our nine regions, including Murri’s On The Move.

ETC Youth Advisor, Danny Middleton, shares his excitement about supporting Murri’s On The Move.

“I get so excited every year for the ETC Community Support Fund. It’s great that ETC staff are able to nominate a local charity that is worthy of receiving funding, and Murri’s On The Move is definitely that.”

“This is an organisation making a real difference to our community, and in the lives of many young people in the region.”

Making a difference

Thanks to $35,000 in funding support from the ETC Community Support Fund, Murri’s On The Move was able to purchase a brand-new vehicle to meet the overwhelming demand in the community.

This support is crucial in improving employment outcomes for First Nations communities and making strides towards Closing the Gap. Something we are passionate about at ETC.

ETC’s CEO, Damon Munt, emphasises our dedication to breaking down barriers to employment and supporting local communities.

“At ETC, our mission is to strengthen our communities through engagement and support. We are in community, with community, for community.”

“Our aim is to provide significant funding for significant impact, helping organisations reduce disadvantage, generate opportunity, increase support services, and build capacity within our local communities.”

ETC is proud to support local organisations that share our vision of making a positive impact on people’s lives.
