Employers looking for hospitality staff during the busy Christmas holiday period are being urged to contact ETC, with 8 job seekers recently graduating from a Certificate II in Hospitality now eager and skilled to work in the industry.
ETC’s Acting CEO Jenny Barnett said the hands on practical training the graduates had received meant they were ready to hit the ground running.
“Our job seekers have had the benefit of learning from a trainer who works in the industry – Trinette McPhee – the manager of the new Brandy’s restaurant,” Mrs Barnett said.
“In addition, they’ve have the opportunity to regularly practice their new skills at numerous cafes and restaurants, including Brandy’s restaurant, as well as at events such as the Coffs Harbour Cup and ETC’s Christmas party.
Liane Crook is one of the graduates who is super keen to be offered work in the hospitality industry.
“I’ve learnt a lot of new skills such as setting a table properly, serving people, plating, making drinks and some cooking,” Ms Crook said.
“I’m a good worker. I’m a hard worker and I would really like a job.
Ms Crook confessed that hospitality is not for everyone.
“It’s hectic, but I like that side of it. It keeps you busy and it’s fun.”
Ben Sullivan is hoping his training and new qualification will open many new doors.
“This course has helped me to be multi-skilled and I’m a lot more confident than I was 12 months ago, especially interacting with different people,” Mr Sullivan said.
“Now I’m just going for it.”
Trainer and Assessor, Trinette McPhee said as part of the nationally accredited course the students have obtained their Food Handling Certificate, Responsible Service of Alcohol and Barista skills.
“The course has been really comprehensive and has covered everything from customer service, working in a team environment, barista skills, bar skills, wine appreciation and leadership development,” she said.
