ETC Announces Estia Health Tuncurry as Employer of the Month

Estia Health Services in Tuncurry has been announced as the Enterprise & Training Company Limited (ETC) Employer of the Month for January.

The Aged Care facility employs 123 staff across various roles including cleaning, laundry, Assistants In Nursing (AIN), lifestyle coordinators, Registered Nurses (RN’s), Enrolled Nurses (EN’s) and administration staff.

Estia Tuncurry Executive Director Melanie Day said the large company aimed to be as flexible as possible with their staff.

“I have tailored some shifts to suit staff with certain needs, for example, working mothers or people with children. I think it’s important when you have really good staff to take care of them. If you offer them shifts that work around their lives then you will retain those staff,” Ms Day said.

Estia Cleaner Rob Mawby congratulated his employer for the award, particularly for giving locals the chance to get their foot in the door.

“I was unemployed for a couple of years after struggling to get work in my trade of sign-writing,” Rob said.

“Estia allowed me to come here and experience what it’s like to work in this industry. It was a complete career change for me, but they gave me a chance and I love working here.”

Ms Day said finding the time to attract high quality and reliable staff in a small rural town could be difficult.

“For me it’s been hard to juggle so many different things with compliance, quality and dealing with residents – which doesn’t leave me much time for human resource management,” Ms Day said.

“Working with ETC has been really easy and they help me by sending prepared resumes through of candidates who have already been checked for quality.”
