Tarcoll Pty Ltd has been announced as the Enterprise & Training Company Limited (ETC) Employer of the Month.
The Taree family owned and operated business established back in 2002 and provides building and construction services as well as corporate giftware.
For the last four years the company has undertaken aboriginal housing upgrades and maintenance works around NSW.
Tarcoll Director Tara Scott said she felt honoured to be awarded as employer of the month.
“We do try to give back to the community, especially the aboriginal community. It’s not all about the bottom line for us,” Tara said.
“We have a lot to do with basketball. So we bring in professionals to the indigenous communities where they run clinics for the kids and give them balls to keep.”
According to Tara, Tarcoll employs thirteen local staff with six of them being fulltime indigenous positions.
“Most of them haven’t had jobs before. So we’re all about giving people the chance to start their working life, learn new skills, gain trade qualifications,” Tara said.
“We like to give our staff opportunities that often other people wouldn’t give them.”
“We have two of our Indigenous staff on painting apprenticeships. Another is completing a construction traineeship and another in the office completing a certificate IV in business.”
Tara said Tarcoll also employed three staff who were mature age workers.
“I think a lot of people out there think they (mature workers) have finished their working life. But that’s certainly not the case. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to the company,” she said.
Tara thanked ETC for assisting with their recruitment needs.
“We are very happy with ETC for giving the extra attention to ensure the candidates referred fit our team well. They have really taken the time to get to know our business, how we operate and our requirements,” Tara said.
“We use ETC when we’re travelling to different towns, to be able to employ local staff from the Indigenous community. Which helps us to get a better rapport with the local community so we can get access into the homes.”
