It’s hard to believe that people would take from those who are out there in the community helping others, but that’s exactly what happened when the Carrara Lions Club had their BBQ sizzling equipment stolen last year.

“At the end of last year the padlocks and chains securing our storage shed were cut and removed and most of the ‘carry-able’ sizzling/BBQ equipment was stolen,” Carrara Lion David Wilman said.

“Fortunately we discovered the theft before anyone could return to steal the bigger items of our BBQ and trailer.”

Mr Wilman said although the Lions Club had insurance it didn’t cover the replacement cost of the stolen goods.

“Consequently we found ourselves, an organisation that is committed to giving back to others, putting our hand up for funds so that we could continue our fundraising efforts,” Mr Wilman said.

“Fortunately we discovered we were eligible for funding under the ETC Community Support Fund. We applied, were successful and soon after were back out sizzling again.”

The Carrara Lions Club conducts regular fundraising sausage sizzles at various locations, including the Baby and Kids Market at Carrara Indoor Centre, Masters, Dan Murphy’s, and Bunnings as well as at charitable events.

ETC’s Gold Coast Business Coordinator Maria Mavoa said it was a pleasure to support the Carrara Lions Club.

“The ETC Community Support Fund is designed to help organisations improve the social and economic development of local communities,” Ms Mavoa said.

“ETC is proud to be a not-for-profit company and we are confident the money we are donating will help make a more positive future for our community.

“Since 1989, ETC has placed over 51,000 Australians into jobs, trained more than 23,000 people, helped over 34,000 small businesses to start-up and grow, and contributed in excess of $25 million to the local communities in which we operate.”

The next round of the ETC Community Support Fund opens on Monday 14 July and closes on Sunday 31 August.
