Work for the Dole (WFD) places job seekers in activities where they can gain skills and experience that give back to the community and can help them find a job.

Eligible job seekers registered with a Workforce Australia provider will need to participate in WFD or another approved activity for 8 weeks each year to keep receiving their income support if they have mutual obligation requirements.

WFD can help job seekers:

  • develop the skills that employers want
  • show they are ready to start work
  • meet new people and make contacts who can be a referee
  • get involved in their local community.

There are many different activities that you may be able to do through WFD. Each will help you develop the skills that show you are ready to start work. Some examples of what you might do include:

  • gardening and maintenance works
  • conservation or environmental activities
  • retail work
  • hospitality services
  • office administration
  • warehouse duties.

The focus is to place you in an individual role to give you the best opportunity to demonstrate your skills to potential employers.
