Deann Amos

Lovely, bright and cheerful are the words used to describe Ballina mum Deann Amos by anyone who encounters her.

Deann is celebrating her recent work promotion which she attributes to “putting the hard yards in” and “having the right attitude”.

“I’m over the moon with being made a supervisor with my current employer Woolworths,” Deann said.

Previous to this, Deann had been working within the macadamia industry sorting nuts at a local company.

She was ready to learn new skills to increase her employability and was enrolled into ETC’s WorkIT Retail course.

ETC Jobs Advisor Sam Birmingham said she had worked closely with Deann to help with her employment pathway.

“She was an absolute delight every time she came into the office. Deann had a contagious smile and personality,” Sam said.

“I would get reports back from Deann’s Trainer that she was always early every morning, busting to get out on the floor to get stuck into it her work placement. She worked tirelessly throughout the store during this busy time, including the back dock preparing stock for the shop.”

At the conclusion of the course, Deann was offered a casual position with Woolworths where she could put her freshly learned skills in motion.

Deann told ETC that within 2 weeks of her employment with Woolworths she was awarded as “Employee of the Month”.

“Then in March I got the “Customer Service of the Week” award,” a proud Deann comments.

“Following that I was offered a full time contract with Woolworths and now they have trained me up to become a supervisor.”

Deann said this had made such a huge difference in her life.

“A whole new door has opened. I love my job and the people that I work with,” she said.

Deann thanked ETC for the help with her course and job applications.

“I love going in to see the girls at ETC – they are always happy and always go out of their way to help you. No one judges you there and it’s great.”

Woolworths Customer Service Manager Melissa Geridy said Deann was an extremely valuable employee.

“She is so lovely, bright and always laughing which is great. It makes everyone around her happy,” said Melissa.

“Deann gets customer compliments all the time and can always be seen smiling – inspiring customers and staff members to join her.”

Melissa thanked ETC for their assistance with training and recruitment.

“Danielle at ETC was great to deal with and I found her to be really helpful. I do like that ETC provides training courses for the employees such as RSA training for our bottle shop girls,” Melissa said.
