Enterprise & Training Company (ETC) is excited to be working with Target Ballina to provide workplace based training for seven local job seekers as part of ETC’s Retail pre-employment program.
The three week intensive training course was designed to provide students with valuable insight into what it’s like working in the Retail industry.
According to student Deann Amos the practical training made it much easier to understand what she had learned in the classroom.
“The whole experience was fantastic – I can’t talk highly enough about it,” Ms Amos said.
“We were buddied up with existing Target staff and got the full experience at the store.”
Ms Amos has now secured herself employment with Woolworths in Ballina.
“My training with ETC and at Target has given me the skills I need for my new job. I’m so grateful for all of it,” she said.
The training at Target covered skills such as how to apply safe work practises, apply point-of-sale handling procedures, working effectively in a customer environment and merchandising products.
Target Store Manager David Rootsey said the training program had many benefits for his business.
“This was great for my team because we had the extra help at this busy time of year. The group of students were really eager and had great customer service skills. Overall the personal presentation from the students was outstanding,” Mr Rootsey said.
“We had all the help and assistance we needed from ETC which made the whole experience enjoyable.”
ETC Regional Manager Training Paul Haywood said ETC was committed to working with employers to meet their needs and finding sustainable employment for local job seekers.
“These programs focus on students learning as a small group directly in industry whilst under the supervised guidance of their trainer/ coach. These programs provide students with the opportunity to “learn by doing” whilst developing strong relations with customers and other staff,” Mr Haywood said.
