CanDo Cancer Trust staff with ETC

It seems we have all been touched by cancer in some way and to support those affected in the Coffs Harbour and Clarence regions ETC has donated $5,000 to local charity the CanDo Cancer Trust.

CanDo Cancer Trust Chairperson Julie Jardine said the Trust provided financial assistance to Mid North Coast Cancer Institute patients and their families.

“We pay any household bills within 24 hours, including phone, electricity, rates, car registration and rent. We can also provide supermarket and fuel vouchers,” Mrs Jardine said.

“The problem with other assistance schemes is that they are sometimes limited in what expenses they cover, they often charge an Administration fee and the money raised locally doesn’t always stay in the local area.

“We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our amazing donors and sponsors.”

Mrs Jardine expressed gratitude towards ETC for coming on board as a sponsor of the CanDo Cancer Trust.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to receive the support from ETC. ETC exists to help the community and so does the CanDo Cancer Trust,” she said.

Chair of the ETC Board Rod McKelvey said although ETC had supported the Trust in the past via the ETC Community Support Fund, the passing of Kerry Hines earlier this year prompted the Board to revisit their support.

“Kerry Hines was a passionate advocate for the community and the CanDo Cancer Trust,” Mr McKelvey said.

“When the community and her husband Chris, a valued Board Member of ETC, lost Kerry to this insidious disease earlier this year, ETC determined the best way to maintain her wonderful legacy was by donating $5000 to the CanDo Cancer Trust, so her work could continue.”

ETC CEO Jenny Barnett said it was important to get behind such a worthwhile local charity.

“We’ve all been touched by cancer in some way and it’s wonderful to be in a position where we can directly help people in need when they are at their most vulnerable,” said ETC CEO Jenny Barnett.
