Hogs Breath Coffs Harbour has been awarded as the ETC Employer of the Month.
According to General Manager Jason Shaw the steakhouse currently employed 28 local staff with a real emphasis on youth employment.
“We understand how hard it is for young people to get their foot in the door somewhere without any experience,” said Mr Shaw.
“So we really want to give the local youth an opportunity – that first job – to gain some skills and help them later on in life.”
When hiring, Mr Shaw said he looked for attitude more than skill.
“Skills can be taught on the job, whereas attitude can’t. It doesn’t matter what your background is (whether you have experience or not), as long as you have a passion for what you do and the drive to want to work hard. We provide all of the training and tools to help build up our new recruits and help them to reach their goals,” he said.
Mr Shaw thanked ETC for helping him to find the right staff for the Hogs Breath team.
“They do most of the hard work for us – the screening, reference checks, organising interviews. Sometimes it’s hard for us to find time to do these things when we’re busy with the day-to-day operations of our business. It makes our lives easier and we know that we’re only going to get the best.”
