ETC supports Darren into work after long-term unemployment

Darren finds hope through employment

Many Australians are still unemployed after a period of economic instability and recovery from the Pandemic and are finding it difficult to find work. 

Darren is one such Australian who has faced difficulties while searching for a job. In recent months, Darren started to see our Richlands team to help him get on his feet.

Getting out of a slump

Darren had been fighting depression, anxiety and a string of medical issues, all of which were impacting his ability and motivation to find employment and get out of a slump.

“When I first met Darren, he had been unemployed for a long time and had faced setback after setback from unsuccessful job interviews that had left him with serious anxiety issues and a lack of confidence. He couldn’t maintain healthy hygiene due to his poor living conditions, so our team knew we had to do something to help,” said Kiahna, one of ETC’s Recruitment Advisors. 

The Richlands team sprung into action and was able to provide Darren with a hygiene pack, a haircut, and a brand-new Resume to get him started. After a couple of meetings, they also set Darren up with his Forklift ticket and transport assistance to help him with his job search. 

ETC knew the importance of finding Darren the right role that would be sustainable for his needs rather than a job that he might fall out of and hurt his confidence even further. Finding a role close to home was important due to Darren relying on public transport. Kiahna was able to find a great opportunity for Darren as a Factory Labourer and set him up with all the PPE and Gear he’d need to start his new role! 

“The Darren I see now is such a different man, he has financial independence, he’s motivated and just so happy to be in a stable position – his confidence is through the roof! He has recently learnt to ride his bike again and now has the confidence back to get his learner’s permit and start driving,” said Kiahna. 

Darren’s story is, unfortunately, not a unique experience for many Australians right now. However, this is a great example of how with the right support services, you can get your life back on track.
