Burleigh Heads based Bindaree Food Group has been named a finalist in the National Employment Services Australia Awards for Excellence – Champion Employer of the Year Award.

The food processing company’s HR/Training Coordinator Bronwyn Quirk said they were overjoyed with the news.

“Bindaree Food Group was established on the Gold Coast in July 2018 and since then has employed 154 people who had previously been unemployed for varying lengths of time,” Mrs Quirk said.

“We have hired for attitude and trained for skill and in the process have been delighted to help improve the lives of a broad range of people from various backgrounds.

Mrs Quirk said Bindaree Food Group Management had seen major changes in their staff since they started with the company.

“Some of the major differences we have seen in our employees who have made the commitment to come and work for us have included increased confidence and self-belief, improved communication and teamwork,” she said.

“We have especially loved seeing several of our staff progress in the company. For example, we have one employee who had not been in stable employment for more than 20 years. She hasn’t missed a day of work since starting with us and is called upon to mentor and train new staff.

“We have another young employee who started on the production line and has progressed to become a key member of the Quality Assurance team inspecting the quality of raw material and finished product to ensure compliance with customer specifications.”

Bindaree Food Group partnered with employment services provider ETC to help meet their recruitment needs.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more dedicated team to help us secure team members willing to learn new skills and gain experience in a new industry and for that we are truly grateful,” Mrs Quirk said.

“ETC took the time to understand our needs and the type of team members we were looking for. They screened, interviewed and referenced checked literally hundreds of job seekers to find those who best suited our needs.

The winner of the Champion Employer of the Year Award will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner on 13 August in Melbourne.
