Linda’s journey to employment through ETC’s DES Program

How ETC’s Disability Employment Services helped Linda achieve her career goals

Meet Linda, a resilient and determined job seeker who faced, and overcame, numerous challenges on her path to employment. From battling depression and anxiety to dealing with chronic pain and hearing loss, Linda’s journey was anything but easy.

Yet, with the right support and encouragement, she transformed her life and found a fulfilling career that not only suits her abilities but also allows her to make a positive impact on her community. This is her inspiring story.

Finding the right support

In 2023, Linda was referred to our Disability Employment Services (DES) program by Centrelink. She was facing significant barriers, including a lack of confidence in herself.

Despite these challenges, Linda was determined to find a job that matched her abilities and interests.

From the moment Linda joined ETC’s DES program, our Port Macquarie team provided constant moral support, positive feedback, and encouragement.

Linda often doubted her abilities, but with the reassurance and advice from her Job Advisor, Dave Hearne, and the entire ETC team, she started believing in herself. With limited local support, ETC and Dave played a crucial role in giving Linda the drive and confidence to excel in the workplace.

Overcoming barriers

Linda’s journey was not without its hurdles. However, with ETC’s support, Linda was able to navigate these challenges and stay focused on her goal.

After a few false starts in jobs that weren’t the best fit, Linda finally found her ideal role in administration. She now helps people who are pregnant and underprivileged to connect with essential services in the local area, such as pregnancy support, financial assistance, and counselling.

This role not only aligns with Linda’s skills and passion, but also allows her to make a positive impact on her community.

Positive changes

Since accessing our services, Linda has experienced a massive boost in her sense of wellbeing. Her new job has provided financial relief and significantly increased her confidence.

Linda speaks very highly of ETC, expressing her gratitude for the support she received.

“ETC is the best provider I have ever worked with. I first thought, ‘Oh, here we go again, no one here will get me a job,’ but I was so wrong. Dave Hearne, my Jobs Advisor, and the whole team have been so supportive and just amazing. Nothing is ever too much,” she says.

Linda’s story highlights the incredible impact that dedicated support and encouragement can have on someone’s journey to employment.
