Recently, ETC had the pleasure of hosting My Future Fest in our Gympie and Maryborough locations. The events encouraged local youth to come and get some free food, participate in some fun activities, attend some free employment workshops, and meet with local employers, educators, and service providers!
Youth employment is a growing concern across Australia, with many young people struggling to find work or navigate their career pathways after school. ETC recognises this challenge and supports youth in their individual journeys into their future and employment.
My Future Fest brings together employers, educators, and industry experts to provide guidance and support for young people who are uncertain about their future or need assistance in finding employment or further education. The event featured a range of workshops, presentations, and networking opportunities designed to provide practical advice and inspiration for the attendees.
One of the key messages that emerged from the events were the importance of being proactive and taking initiative in pursuing one’s career goals. The presenters emphasized that young people needed to be actively seeking out opportunities and developing their skills and qualifications. They also stressed the importance of building networks and developing relationships with your peers, which can help open doors to employment opportunities.
The event also highlighted the critical role that youth support programs provide in getting young people into work. The Workforce Australia – Transition to Work program, that ETC delivers in the Sunshine Coast region, provides young people with personalized support to help them identify their strengths and interests, explore career options, and develop the skills and qualifications required to enter the workforce. The program also provides practical support such as resume writing, interview skills, and job search strategies.
Representatives from local education and training providers were present to provide information on their courses and programs. They highlighted the different pathways available to young people and the qualifications required to enter certain fields.
My Future Fest demonstrated the commitment that the local community has to supporting youth employment in the Sunshine Coast region.
Most importantly, the event created a safe space for local youth who might be having a hard time, and an opportunity to meet other young people in similar situations, to connect with, and build on each others confidence!
