Nerang man grateful for employment opportunity after 12 month struggle

This Christmas is going to be a lot cheerier for 24-year-old Matt Cooper who is thrilled to have secured a job after a 12 month struggle to find work.

Matt described this point in his life as “pretty horrible” where he tried to cope day-by-day without money to do anything.

“It was really hard and I got into a lot of debt,” Matt said.

“I’m now working 3 days a week as a labourer. It’s great and helps out a lot. The people I work with are really nice and I enjoy the travelling too.”

Matt is grateful to be getting himself in a better position both financially and socially.

“It’s great because I now have money I can actually go out to do things with my friends and I can finally pay off my debts,” he said.

“My next goal is to move out of home and get my own place.”

Matt thanked ETC for their help after he transferred over to their services.

“ETC are great and they help you out with a lot. The staff there are really lovely and Cinthia (my Jobs Advisor) gives me calls to see how I’m going,” Matt said.

“They helped me with fuel to get to get to appointments and work, clothes for job interviews, my resume and put me through a Construction course.”

ETC Jobs Advisor Cinthia Bellerose had been working closely with Matt during his unemployment phase.

“It’s really rewarding to be able to help people, especially when they are in a low point in their lives,” Cinthia said.

“I’m delighted to see that Matt’s life has turned around for the good.”
