Pricing, personal service and listening to customers are the key factors to business success according to Coffs Harbour’s Bailey family.

Ted and Judy Bailey have been running Bailey’s Mitre 10 for more than 40 years and have recently relocated the business from Toormina to Orlando Street in Coffs Harbour.

“Our customers kept telling us that they needed a store north of Coffs Harbour and we listened,” Mrs Bailey said.

“We’ve gone back to our roots because the store initially started in Park Avenue.”

Mrs Bailey said one of the features of the new store is a trade division that will be operational in mid-February.

“We’ve doubled our floor space and taken on three extra staff,” Mrs Bailey said.

“We’re also looking forward to opening the new trade centre and employing a dedicated trade person who is an expert in that area.”

So, what are the Bailey’s secrets to longevity in business?

“Don’t give up!” Mrs Bailey said.

“We’ve had our fair share of tough times and we had to consider long and hard about making this move at our age, but in the end my husband convinced me it was the right decision.”

As part of the relocation process, the Bailey’s accessed ETC’s business consultancy services through the Small Biz Connect Program.

“We contacted ETC about grants that were available to help reduce our debt level,” Mrs Bailey said.

“We were advised that a relocation grant exists that we may be eligible for because we are employing additional staff.”

Bailey’s Mitre 10 is located at 187-189 Orlando Street and is open weekdays from 6.30am – 5.30pm and 8.00am – 4.00pm on weekends.
