Parent Pathways: Helping parents reach their goals through personalised support

Are you a parent or carer of a child or children up to 6 years old, seeking support to achieve your personal, educational, or employment goals? Parent Pathways is a voluntary service that provides personalised assistance and financial support to eligible parents and carers.

Our service is dedicated to meeting the unique needs of each parent and carer. Providing guidance and practical support, empowering you to achieve positive outcomes for your future.

We work closely with you to identify your aspirations and deliver tailored guidance and resources throughout your journey with Parent Pathways. With the help of a qualified mentor, you can receive flexible support for any personal, study, or work goals.

Whether you need help finding childcare, accessing community services, or developing a plan for your future, our mentors are here to assist you every step of the way.

How does Parent Pathways work?

Parent Pathways is entirely voluntary and tailored to your individual needs and circumstances. If you choose to participate, you will collaborate with an ETC mentor to develop a plan that suits you and your family.

The program is flexible, accessible and considerate of each parent’s individual goals. We always engage with an open mind and a respectful attitude, ensuring parents feel valued and heard.

After your first appointment in person, you can attend additional appointments over the phone, or online, or in person – either at a local ETC office or our outreach mentors can meet you somewhere closer to home. It’s up to you! When attending in person, your children are always welcome and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. The service is family-friendly, so if you need to reschedule appointments, that’s okay. Once you and your mentor develop a Goal Plan, you’ll receive ongoing support to achieve your goals.

If your situation changes, your mentor can help you find an alternative option that better suits you. If you need more support, your mentor can help you access other helpful services in the local community.

I care for my child full time. Can I bring them to my appointment?

Yes, you can. Your appointments might be over the phone, in person, or online, and your children are always welcome to attend. The service is family-friendly, so if you need to reschedule appointments, that’s okay. Just call us and we can reschedule.

Is it only for parents or carers looking for a job?

No, Parent Pathways is focused on your individual circumstances. You can work with your mentor to identify skills, experience, and qualifications to help you plan for your future. We can help you to find a childcare centre or with childcare costs, get a referral to support such as financial information services and family and domestic violence support services, access language or literacy programs, or connect with training, such as a short course.

What support is available?

The service offers a range of support options, including working with a mentor to find activities, services, and training that meets your needs. Some services on offer include:

  • Language or literacy programs.
  • Childcare support: Including help with finding and affording childcare services, ensuring that you can focus on your goals while your children are well cared for.
  • Financial assistance: The program provides tuition assistance, emergency funding, and other financial supports to help cover the costs of education and training related expenses.
  • Referral to supports: Such as financial information services or family and domestic violence support services.
