Debra Atkinson, from Maitland framing company Picture This Custom Framing, is nailing the framing game across the Hunter region!
With a background in custom framing and a passion for the local art scene, picture framer Deb has been able to create a thriving small business in her community.
What’s her secret to success?
She said that after taking the leap into starting her small business, the key was finding the right business support and mentor.
Deb found this support through ETC’s Workforce Australia program – Self-Employment Assistance, and ETC Business Trainer Julian Campbell.
After signing up with ETC, Deb completed training through our Self-Employment Assistance program.
She first undertook ‘Skillset Training’, and then moved onto our ’12-month Coaching Program’.

What’s Deb’s favourite part about running her own picture framing business?
“I love being able to reward myself as a business owner, as opposed to rewarding someone else.”
“Plus, I enjoy having full ownership of the decision-making process.”
“I also get a lot out of seeing my name out there – “Debra Atkinson, owner of Picture This” – I didn’t expect to get so much pride from that.”
