Career Start

Career Start Supports Queenslanders with Affordable Training to Start or Take the Next Step in Their Career

Career Start is a Queensland Government–funded program designed to help eligible individuals begin their career or progress into more skilled or full-time employment.

The program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Career Start supports delivery of entry level training to students, Trainees and Apprentices aligned with the skill outcomes required by industry.

Training is aligned with industry skill needs and is available through two pathways:

• Employment-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship Pathway
• General Training Pathway

General Training Pathway

The General Training Pathway provides subsidised, entry-level training for eligible individuals who are not currently enrolled in a qualification.

*Concessional Participants are defined as follows:

• Holds a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or is the partner or a dependant of a person who holds such a card and is named on the card
• Holds an official form issued under Commonwealth law confirming that they, their partner, or the person of whom they are a dependant is entitled to concessions under a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card
• Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
• Has a disability
• Is an adult prisoner

Eligibility

You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Career Start under a General Training Pathway:

• Be 15 years or older
• Not be a school student
• Be a permanent Queensland resident
• Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible visa holder, or New Zealand citizen
• Not be currently enrolled in another qualification (foundation skills qualifications excluded)
• Not have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification in the past 10 years
  (qualifications completed at school do not count)

Participants can access up to two subsidised training places under Career Start.

Employment-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship Pathway

This pathway supports eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees undertaking training through a registered training contract.

Courses Available

• Certificate I in Hospitality (SIT10222)
• Certificate III in Business (BSB30120)
• Certificate III in Individual Support – Ageing (CHC33021)
• Certificate III in Individual Support – Community Care (CHC33021)
• Certificate III in Individual Support – Disability (CHC33021)
• Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30622)

Co-contribution fee:
$1.60 per nominal training hour, per unit of competency.

Eligibility (Apprenticeship or Traineeship Pathway)

To be eligible, you must:

• Be currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee
• Be undertaking an eligible qualification under a registered training contract
• Not be currently enrolled in another qualification (foundation skills qualifications excluded)
• Not have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification in the past 10 years
  (qualifications completed at school do not count)

Participants can access up to two subsidised training places under Career Start.
